East Grand Rapids – America’s Hometown

East Grand Rapids Michigan – America’s hometown

East Grand Rapids is home town for quite a few famous people and

lots of not-so-famous people. Gerald R Ford, our 38th President and

our 40th Vice President grew up in Grand Rapids. He lived in East Grand

Rapids where he served as a Michigan Congressman for 25 years.

The movie “American Pie” was written by Adam  Herz, who grew up in

East Grand Rapids and based the movie on his teen years.

But East Grand Rapids Michigan is more than a famous hometown,

it is a quintessential American hometown. The population is about 11,000

people, and it  has fewer than 4000 housing units.  East Grand Rapids has

4 seasons, so you can enjoy all seasonal sports and outdoor events.

You can walk or bike to almost anywhere in East in a short time, it has

about  3 square miles of total area.  You can frolic in Collins Park or enjoy

water sports  on Reeds Lake year round.   If you jet ski, sail, wind surf,

fish, walk or just like to gaze at the water, Reeds Lake is a  prominent

part of the local community activities.

East GR has great neighborhoods, some include stately mansions,

others  are average homes, tree lined streets,  above average city

services, award winning public schools, a vibrant downtown shopping

district-Gaslight Village, and all within 10 minutes of downtown Grand

Rapids cultural events.

Take our photo tour of East GR and get acquainted with it’s charm.

Fall in East Grand Rapids Michigan

Fall in East Grand Rapids Michigan

We enjoy autumn in Michigan, it is one of our favorite seasons.

The fall colors, the crisp fall air, football games, crisp crunchy apples are

just a few of the wonderful things about fall in Michigan.

While the autumn colors on the trees are a thing of beauty, they quickly become

a much detested chore to clean up.  Raking leaves on a beautiful fall day

is fun for about 30 minutes. On a blustery cold, rainy day, it is a miserable

chore, a never ending job to complete.  The leaves fall like rain, and will

take a few days to 2 weeks to completely leave the trees.

If you live in the city of East Grand Rapids, Michigan, this isn’t such a

chore because the city will contract to remove your leaves for you.  All you

have to do is get them to the curb.

EGR leaves

As you can see in these photos of a few streets in East Grand Rapids, many

leaves are at the curb, ready to be picked up and composted.  A sure sign of

fall in these neighborhoods.
