Grand Rapids Good Eats – The Cottage Bar

Grand Rapids Good Eats – The Cottage Bar

Voted Best Burger many times by Grand Rapids residents,

this little bar off Fulton and Jefferson in downtown

Grand Rapids is one of our favorite places to eat.

Besides the burgers and potatoes, they have chili, which

can range on the fiery scale from one alarm to five alarm

hot!

Cottage_Bar_Outdoor_Dining

In the summer months, outdoor dining is available.  Open for lunch

or dinner, you can’t go wrong at the casual Cottage Bar.  It can be crowded

on a weekend evening, so arrive early or be prepared to wait.

Home Safe in Grand Rapids 15 Home Safety Tips

Home Safe  15 Home Safety Tips

by Bonnie and Terry Westbrook

Many accidents happen in the home.  In the winter months,

lots of time is spent in the home, so checking home safety issues makes

sense now. In an emergency you don’t have time to waste.

  1. Are electrical extension cords in good condition?
  2. Are electrical outlets overloaded?
  3. Do you know how to turn off the gas, electricity, & water in case of emergency?
  4. Are all floor coverings fastened down?
  5. Are open flames such as candles kept away from walls and curtains?
  6. Are fireplaces screened and protected?
  7. Do you have smoke detectors and have you checked the batteries?
  8. Do you have an approved fire extinguisher on each floor?
  9. Do you have emergency phone numbers–police, fire, doctor, utilities in a prominent place?
  10. Are firearms unloaded and locked up?
  11. Are unused electrical outlets covered or locked?
  12. Are open windows securely screened?
  13. Do interior doors have locks that allow them to be opened from either side?
  14. Are proper fuses used rather than pennies or substitutes?
  15. Are extension cords crossing heavily trafficked areas?

Snowman

With a low of 3 degrees last night and high today of 14, here in West

Michigan, winter has arrived at last.  We are a hardy bunch and revel in

the winter season.  Skis, both downhill and cross country will be dug out

of the basement this weekend. Snowboards, ice skates and sleds will be,

too.  Because we know that it will be snow much fun to enjoy the outdoor

winter season in West Michigan.

In fact, Rosa Parks Circle has special events planned for all outdoor

enthusiasts this coming weekend – $1/free ice skating at the rink,

zoo animals, ice sculptures, GR Griffins, food, warming tents, and more!

So warm up your inner child and head on out to the Great Skate in GR

this weekend!
