Forest Hills Schools Named Top High Schools in Nation

Forest Hills Schools Named Top High Schools in Nation

Forest Hills Eastern, Northern and Central High Schools have been

named top high schools in the nation by Newsweek in a report on

public schools in America. Located east of the city of Grand Rapids,

Forest Hills Public School District is one of the top rated schools in

the state and the nation.

fheasternhs_thumb.jpg

The high schools in the study were judged on college preparedness,

participation in college level classes,  advanced placement classes,

international baccalaureate programs, and acceptance into two

and four year college programs.

Although only the high schools were rated in this article, all of

Forest Hills Public Schools strive for academic excellence for

all their students.

If you are considering locating in the Forest Hills District,

give Terry a call.  He knows the area well and has sold and closed

countless Forest Hills homes, from starter homes to executive enclaves.

Gov. Snyder Declares State of Emergency for 18 Michigan Counties

Gov. Snyder Declares State of Emergency for 18 Michigan Counties

ThegrandriverKnappStnorth_thumb.jpg

Kent County is just one of the 2013 flood affected counties in Michigan.

This declaration will enable a damage assessment to be done on homes

and public properties.  Then it will be determined if damages are severe enough

to ask for federal assistance.

The estimated damages are 6 million dollars to homes and public property, so far.

This process will take a few weeks or even months before local home owners see any

government offers of financial assistance in the form of low interest loans to

rebuild or repair damages.

If you are a West Michigan homeowner displaced or coping with flood damage, watch

Kent County’s official web site for updates:  www.accessKent.com/News.___

East Grand Rapids MI Tree Disposal 2013

East Grand Rapids Michigan Tree Disposal 2013

by Bonnie and Terry Westbrook

Now that the holidays are over, clean up and disposal is on your

mind, especially if you have a fresh fir tree or wreaths.  These

can be disposed of in an environmentally safe way by your local

government.  Most provide a place or method for tree disposal.

 Christmas Tree

East Grand Rapids residents may place discarded Christmas trees

and wreaths for collection and disposal at the curb on their regular

waste collection service day for two weeks, beginning Mon. January 7th.

If you are unfamiliar with the East GR’s collection schedule, you can call

the public works dept. at 940-4817 or go their website and view the yard

collection map.

Yes, the holidays are over and soon it will be time to take down

the holiday decorations.  If you have a live tree and/ or live greenery to

dispose of, think green this year and recycle them.

Ada Township Residents may drop off trees, wreaths, and greenery for

recycling at the back lot of Ada Township Park between 7:30 am and 8 pm

from now till January 14, 2013.

The trees will be recycled into wood chips while the wire from the wreaths

will be used to make new wreaths.

Cascade Township residents should bring their trees and wreaths to the

parking lot at the Butterick Fire Station.  Located at Butterick Ave and 30th

Street, greens will be accepted from now to January 6th.

Grand Rapids $100 Home Energy Audits

Grand Rapids $100 Home Energy Audits

Affordable home energy audits are available in the Grand Rapids area.

Normally, these would cost $300-$400, but the State of

Michigan has set up a program through BetterBuildings for Michigan with

$30 million in federal grant money to help homeowners reduce energy

consumption.

Energy efficient bulb

Before your eyes glaze over with boredom, you might want to consider

the before and after statistics of a Free Home Energy Audit. Savings

have been seen by previous users from $235 to $800 a month.

The Team installs energy efficient light bulbs, showerheads,

faucets, and programmable thermostats at no additional charge.

They also suggest additional cost effective and energy saving home

improvements, such as insulation and appliances. They also offer

financial assistance to those who choose to install energy saving

measures, including rebates totaling up to $5000.
